Sattva Yoga Ksetram, established by Yvonne Henderson is dedicated to teaching yoga in its holistic sense following the teachings of T Krisnamacharya. Here, individual needs and abilities are respected and a wide range of classes are offered, both in groups and individually for promoting health and well being of body, mind and spirit. Sattva is a Sanskrit word meaning ...pure... light... the light of clarity and balance. YOGA has many interpretations... In yoga, there are two common threads. There is the fact that everything we do, at every level of practice, is infused with concious involvement. We always bring our mind to the experience. There is also the experience of flow, inward and outward, to everything we do. There are the contracting and expanding postures of the body: the inhalation and exhalation of the breath, the birnging of an object of meditation into our hearts and minds, and our flowing back into the object until we are one with it. [TKV Desikachar, Health, healing and beyond. p.174-175] Ksetram is a Sanskrit word which means both ...centre and field. The focus of Sattva Yoga Ksetram is to serve society, help others experience the joy and power of yoga by sharing the precious source teachings it has received. T Krisnamacharya firmly believed that yoga was universal to all people, irrespective of age, gender, culture, faith, abilities and interests. Yet, he also highlighted that in order to maximise potential impact of yoga on these different individuals, it had to be personalised, rather than standardised. His teaching of yoga was universal in appeal, yet personal in approach. Yvonne Henderson has been practicing yoga for over 20yrs and completed teacher training with Friends in Yoga and is an accredited khyf, Krishnamacharya Healing Yoga Foundation Teacher. healingyogafoundation.com |
